Rocio — the person behind Pegados Collage Studio

Pegados Collage Studio · Naarm / Melbourne

Hi, I'm Rocio,
also known as Sylvia Dix.

I'm the person behind Pegados Collage Studio, a small paper-based art business run from right here in Naarm (Melbourne).

I used to be a full-time product designer — ten-plus years into a career I'd built carefully, piece by piece. Then AI started eating the industry from the inside out, and I found myself asking a question I hadn't asked in a long time: what do I actually want to make with my hands?

The answer had been sitting with me since 2016, when I first got into collage while backpacking through New Zealand.

My Story

What started as a way to pass the time on the road never really let go of me. Somewhere between old magazines, torn tickets, and pressed flowers, I found a way of making that felt honest. Nothing has to match on purpose. It just has to mean something.

Now I'm a full-time crafter, and most days that looks like sorting paper scraps at my kitchen table with two small collage assistants who love glue a little too much.

Why “Pegados”

Pegados means glued, in Spanish. It also means stuck together, and colloquially, close.

Three meanings, one word. It felt right for a brand built on paper scraps, secondhand stories, and people who stick together no matter what. That idea shows up in the workshops too — a room full of strangers, some glue, some paper, and by the end of the night, everyone's a little more “pegados” than when they walked in.

I also come from Peru, home of what I firmly believe is the best food in the world. Craft and food are both about bringing people together around a table, and that's really the whole purpose behind Pegados: connecting with community through craft, and food — always food.
